I stare through the glass at the dark void that surrounds me, tiny stars sprinkled across it like grains of sand scattered across black velvet. The glass feels as cold as always as I lay my fingers against it, the only familiar touch I still have.


Everything is quiet, yet peaceful. The blue lights above me are the only sign of life in this ship, casting faint shadows across the walls and making the empty corridors beyond the window feel almost unreal. I don't remember when the silence stopped bothering me.


At first, I used to fill it. I would talk to myself. Hum little songs I barely remembered. Read old messages just to hear voices that weren't mine. Anything to keep the quiet from settling too deeply into my head. Now I barely notice it. I pull my hand away from the glass. Another day by myself, I wonder.


Days? I've forgotten what that means to me.


It does not matter anymore.


I hug myself, feeling the warmth of my hands against my bare shoulders, trying to hold on to something that still feels human.


I glance back at the scenery before me, letting my thoughts carry me away into dreams of everything that lies beyond. Places yet to be discovered, adventures yet to be lived, and memories waiting to be made.


Thoughts of leaving this nightmare begin to creep into my mind, and with them comes a desperation I can no longer keep buried. Tears begin to well in my eyes as memories of everything I've lost come rushing back—faces, voices, laughter, moments I once took for granted. For a moment, I let myself remember. And somehow, remembering hurts more than forgetting.


Defeated, I sink to the floor and let myself fade away, letting the memories slip through my fingers one by one. I close my eyes and surrender to the quiet, hoping that when I open them again, I’ll be somewhere else.
